Facebook: Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages of Facebook:

-Connects friends and family that may not have otherwise been connected
-Exposes users to many fun and interesting applications including games, quizzes, etc.
-Allows a place for you to create a profile and share/store all of your pictures
-Because of information obtained about users, companies are able to customize ads that closer cater to what you are interested in.
-Users are able to post and invite people to events online

Disadvantages of Facebook:

- Once you sign up, any information you put on facebook is indestructable
- Many more people than you may realize have access to your personal information posted on facebook such as potential employers, police, schools, and companies looking to buy your information. (Not to mention hackers)
-Facebook's terms of use and privacy settings are becoming increasingly confusing and untrustworthy.
- The sheer number of facebook users, (everday people) that have access to all of your information, pictures, comments, likes, friends is a bit disconcerting. Facebook itself almost redefines privacy, or at least pushes its boundaries. You never know who might be checking up on you!
-The changes that facebook seems to make so frequently often only confuse users and make privacy even less restricted, with longer and more detailed news feeds that seem to tell you about things you never cared to know about your friends.
